The design of the Burma peace rupee has been inspired by The Japanese Government rupee notes, issued in Burma in World War II.
The Ananda temple illustration was hand-drawn by Brisbane-based designer, Gregory Hale. He used original Japanese Government notes, often referred to as Japanese Invasion Money, as his reference to faithfully recreate the illustration.
The Buddhist temple was built in 1105 AD in Bagan, Myanmar. Ananda, meaning bliss, is the name of Buddha’s cousin and disciple. Legend has it, monks who designed the temple were killed after construction to prevent any similar temples from being made
