Clay / Porcelain red/brown
1 Sen
These clay coins were made in the last days of World War II in central Japan. Metals were in short supply and were needed for making planes, bullet casings etc. so they made these coins from fine clay. The coins are undated with Mt Fuji on one side with 'one' on the top left and a stylised cherry blossom surrounded by three characters 'Dai Nippon. They were possibly circulated for a day or two in central Japan just before the Japanese surrender.
Very rare and unusual item.
Excellent UNC condition.
